Unveiling the secret of selling high-priced rare shoes

IndiaMany Gen Zs in India have entered the limited edition shoe resale industry to get rich, despite the risks.

At the age of 17, Vedant Lamba, born in 1999, owner of a resell fashion and sports shoe store in Mumbai, bought himself a pair of Adidas NMD with price 163 USD (about 3.7 million VND). Wearing new shoes out, he feels himself “like a god”.

“When I found out that the original stores were out of this version, I tried searching elsewhere and realized they were being sold at exorbitant prices,” Lamba said.

Vedant Lamba, one of the first to enter the limited edition sports shoe resale industry in India, expects the field to boom in the next three years. Photo: Vedant Lamba

The resell industry (buying from genuine distributors and reselling to consumers) is quite popular in the world with a revenue of up to 30 billion USD by 2030. In India, the country is a big consumer of footwear. second in the world, the trend of collecting rare shoes for resale at high prices is booming.

According to Lamba, Indians like to flaunt their wealth with status, gold or property. And today shoes.

Likhit Sreenivas, 17, started reselling high-priced sneakers four years ago. He realized that the sports shoe market in India is heavily influenced by celebrities. Many people are willing to spend $ 10,000 when they see the artist wearing Air Jordan Dior, even though they do not understand anything about the brand just now. “The only thing they know about Dior is the high-end brand,” says Sreenivas.

Shoes like Nike Air Jordan or Adidas Yeezy are only sold by brands for a short time. To own, shoe hunters must have “insiders” who are employees at Nike, Adidas stores, or ask friends and relatives abroad.

“90% of limited edition sneakers are available in India, but very few ordinary consumers can afford them,” said Anchit Kapil, 34, co-founder of sports and fashion retailer CrepDog Crew said.

According to Kapil, shoe stores often contact distributors directly to get goods. This is something that people cannot do, whether in line for two days in front of a store or waiting for 5 hours in front of a computer, the probability of buying is only 0.1%.

To increase their chances of being in the 0.1% group, many people use automated software (bots) to carry out the ordering and payment process “in the blink of an eye”.

Ishan Chauhan, 18, a shoe reseller in Delhi, admitted to using the Nike bot for business. “They don’t guarantee you’ll buy them, but at least they increase your chances of buying,” Ishan said.

Low sales volume, high buying demand, makes reselling high-end sports shoes a super profitable investment for Gen Z.

Many young people flock to the shoe reselling industry, making this market gradually heat up. However, lack of experience from reality will cause them to “fall down”, especially scams.

In October 2020, 17-year-old Kabir Singh tried his hand at selling branded shoes by setting up an exclusive chat group on WhatsApp. Members pay a fee of $134 to access rare orders.

There, Singh got to know Sanchit Gupta, 27 years old. After many months of doing business, Singh cooperated with Gupta, agreeing to use the same account to trade and make money. “In the beginning, Gupta traded fairly, when I was busy studying for exams he would take money from customers to buy shoes. After a while, not a single customer received the shoes even though they had paid for it,” Singh said. Not only stealing from guests, Gupta openly accused Singh of being a fraud.

“He told the customer I was the one responsible. People started threatening to beat me up if I didn’t pay,” Singh said. Things only stopped when Singh’s family had to give Gupto $20,000 to stop the lies.

Lack of experience also makes it easy for young entrepreneurs to buy fake goods.

Kavaya Garg, 18, once received a pair of fake shoes when trying to buy them cheaply due to lack of capital. “Fortunately, I double-checked before delivering to customers. Since then, I understand the importance of verifying real and fake goods,” he said.

It is easy to make a profit, but most young people think that this job does not really bring stability in the long run. “I don’t think this is a sustainable business,” said 20-year-old Rishubh SV, a dealership owner from Bengalury.

Shoe dealer owners evaluate, resell shoes can develop in the next 5 to 10 years, but not forever.

The cafe of the acid hit

IndiaWithout the Sheroes Hangout cafe, Anshu Rajput, an acid attack victim, would probably cover his face for life.

Before India lost its tourists due to the pandemic, everyone visiting the Taj Mahal added a stop at the nearby Sheroes Hangout to their itinerary.

Located just a few kilometers from the famous icon of India in the northern city of Agra, this cafe is staffed and managed by acid attack survivors.

The shop was established in 2014, sponsored by the Chhanv Foundation (an NGO that supports acid attack victims in India). Most of the smiling women who work here, have scarred skin. Some suffered eye damage, others looked as if their entire faces had been melted away by acts of violence and cruelty.

The cafe has a library, a radio station. This place not only gives jobs to those unfortunate women but also gives them the confidence to face society. Image: Chhanv Foundation/CNN

Sheroes Hangout Café has changed the lives of many female victims. Here, employees don’t have to cover their hurt faces. They do makeup, chat with customers. And they even freely share with customers about the most terrifying moments of their lives.

“Everybody called me ugly. The first time I went to the bar, I covered my face. But I was surprised that no one did. They were chatting with regular customers, happily posing for selfies with them,” Madhu Kashyap, said an employee. Kashyap, 45, was doused with acid 24 years ago when she turned down a man’s marriage proposal. Her fiancé at that time still decided to marry her, but she struggled to get a job. And the cafe has lit up hope for a brighter future for women.

Anshu Rajput, a resident of Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh state, has a similar story. She was only 15 years old when she turned down marriage proposals from her 55-year-old neighbour. And he threw acid at her. “I never thought I would have a normal life again. Thanks to the cafe, I’m living like anyone else.”

The foundation's priority is to secure the livelihoods of Sheroes employees, including helping them learn the skills they need to pursue their dreams. On the photo is the branch of the shop in Lucknow. Photo: Chhanv Foundation/CNN

The restaurant initially had financial difficulties, but within a year, the shop quickly became popular with locals and foreigners. Many politicians and influencers around the world such as former Italian prime minister Paolo Gentiloni Silveri and the German president’s wife, Elke Büdenbender, have visited the restaurant and promised to keep it alive. A few years later, the shop opened a second branch in the city of Lucknow, supporting the employment of about 30 victims of acid attacks.

However, during the pandemic, Sheroes Hangout Café suffered heavy damage. Sales fell 80% forced the shop to close from April because their customers are mainly tourists. But the store employees are all strong people. They don’t let the pandemic affect their spirits. People use the money raised from donors and together cook food and distribute it to needy people in the area.

Every day, they cook together 100 meals to help people. Early in the morning, a group of people from charities and staff gather at the Sheroes Hangout Café. After that, some go to the market to buy food, others cook. Others went to some of the hardest hit areas of the city and distributed food packages.

In addition, they also take the time to learn new skills for personal life. Shukla, the co-founder of the shop, said he signed up for beauty courses to open a salon. A few others are interested in fashion, and have learned to design and sew clothes. Others are focusing on making jewelry.

Rupa, 26, from Muzaffarnagar city, Uttar Pradesh state, has undergone seven surgeries since the age of 13, when her stepmother threw acid on her. The cafe has given women like her the recognition and strength to face the world, she said. Currently, she is learning basic computer skills, English and sewing.

And Anshu Rajput staff enjoys writing. “Working at the bar has given me confidence and the opportunity to try new things. Without the bar, I would hide my face for the rest of my life.”

For now, it is fortunate that the shop in Lucknow can reopen as soon as the government relaxes the restrictions because they do not have to pay rent. The shop is the property given to them by the government. But the restaurant in Arga will take at least another year to open because most of the customers are foreigners, although the Taj Mahal has reopened since June.

According to India’s National Crime Records Bureau, in the four years from 2014 to 2018 there were nearly 1,600 acid attack victims, equivalent to at least one a day. Most of the victims are women. The perpetrator usually does not intend to kill, but only deliberately distorts the victim’s face. At times, these victims face lifelong isolation as they often have to cover their faces and suffer from social exclusion. Acid throwers can face a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, possibly up to life in prison and fines, but conviction rates are very low.

  • Competition with Vietnam and South Korea

New Delhi. Uttar Pradesh literally snatched Samsung’s display unit from China. Not only that, but a German footwear company has already come to Agra from China. Noida’s display unit is now Samsung’s third in the world after Vietnam and South Korea. Samsung’s display unit employs 3,000 people and is expected to employ 10,000 people.

Clubhouse will have ‘hey’ banging features, anyone can message

Special ventures under Make in India

The best example of the success of the Make in India program is Samsung’s display unit. In 2019, Samsung set up its largest mobile manufacturing unit in Noida. In less than two years, the work was completed in April 2021. About Rs 10,000 crore has been invested in both Samsung units.

12 crore units will be produced in a year

The production capacity of the project is planned to be three million display units per month. At present, the installed production capacity of mobile phones is around 9 crore per annum. Now the target is to increase this capacity to 12 crore per annum. As a result, Uttar Pradesh will be one of India’s largest exporters.

Under the PPI scheme, total exports from UP are projected to reach २ 26.2 billion between 2020 and 2025, with Samsung’s projects contributing significantly. In May 2017, Samsung signed a memorandum of understanding with the state government to invest in mobile phone products. The power line for Samsung’s project was completed in just four months, a different record for UP in India.

According to the news agency, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the state government is ready to help Samsung’s manufacturing unit. He also assured the delegation that Samsung would continue to receive support from the state government.

Hire bodyguards, fierce dogs to deal with ‘mango bandits’

IndiaA couple in the state of Madhya Pradesh recruit 4 bodyguards and 6 fierce dogs to protect rare and expensive mangoes in their garden.

Sankalp Parihar, the owner of an orchard in the city of Jabalpur in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, made headlines last week for hiring bodyguards and fierce dogs to prevent thieves from stealing Miyazaki mangoes from his garden.

Miyazaki mango tree was bought by Parihar on a train without knowing it was the most expensive mango in the world. Until last year, when the tree produced unusual ruby-colored fruit, Sankalp curiously went online to find out and know information about it.

The Miyazaki mango gets its name from the town of Miyazaki in Japan, which started producing this mango about 50 years ago. Miyazaki mangoes are often used as luxurious and expensive gifts.

News of the Miyazaki mango tree in the Parihar garden spread everywhere, causing many thieves to prowl, even trying to steal the tree. To deal with this situation, the Parihar couple decided to hire bodyguards and fierce dogs to protect the mango tree.

He and his wife said many mango growers and fruit lovers have contacted, saying they are willing to pay any price to get the Miyazaki mango tree or fruit.

The Madhya Pradesh State Horticultural Authority examined the Parihars’ mango trees and confirmed they were indeed rare. Scientists from Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University in Jabalpur are also planning to study this fruit.

Know whether drinking milk can cause diabetes

Scientists negate the argument

Some people may have difficulty digesting the lactose found in milk. Humans in general have, over the years, developed the body’s ability to digest lactose, so that milk can be consumed throughout life. Lactose helps in brain development. At the same time, some people say that drinking milk regularly can cause diabetes. At present the scientific evidence is to the contrary. Scientists argue that milk is actually beneficial for diabetics.

Cases reported in some Scandinavian countries

There is an older theory that has only been reported in a few Scandinavian countries. In which it has been said that cow’s milk is associated with type 1 diabetes. However, many later studies rejected this theory. It is said that in western countries, the mother is not breastfed from the time of birth till 6 months of the newborn. Due to which their immunity does not develop much and in future they have to face a lot of difficulties in fighting diseases.

Good news amidst lack of vaccine, Pfizer vaccine may come to the country next month

Pfizer’s US vaccine may arrive in the country next month. The government has decided to relax regulatory legal hurdles in this direction. In fact, Pfizer had sought relaxation in compensation regulators. It is now agreed in the government that it should be given this exemption. Such exemptions are sought by the company from all countries including America where the vaccine is to be supplied. If Pfizer’s vaccine gets government approval, it will be the fourth vaccine in India. Earlier, Coveshield, Covaxin and Sputnik vaccine of Russia are being given to the people of India.

Government and company agreement
According to the news published in TOI, the final agreement is yet to be done between the Indian government and the US company regarding the compensation and procurement process, but a consensus has been reached on the purchase of the vaccine from both sides. According to sources, the government can provide complete exemption in compensation. Pfizer has received exemptions for such limited use from the US Food and Drug Administration, the European Medicines Agency, the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency UK, the Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices Agency Japan. Along with this, Pfizer’s vaccine has also got a place in the WHO emergency list.

The company can send five crore doses
According to a report, Pfizer had talked about giving 50 million doses to India between July and October. Significantly, in the past, American company Pfizer had said that it is ready to provide 50 million vaccines in 2021 itself, but it wants big relaxation in some regulatory conditions including compensation. This American company has indicated to provide 50 million vaccines this year. In this, one crore vaccines will be made available in July, one crore in August and two crore in September and one crore in October. The company has said that it will only talk to the Indian government and the vaccines will have to be paid by the Indian government to Pfizer India.

Which discount company
In fact, Pfizer has sought protection regarding the possible side effects of the vaccine, which has been agreed in the Government of India. A decision on this will be taken soon. Usually, if any kind of side effects come to the fore regarding any medicine or vaccine, then the company is charged damages. But the vaccine has been prepared in a hurry, so vaccine manufacturers need exemption from it. This type of exemption was sought by Pfizer in all the countries, including the US, where its vaccine has been supplied.
