Semiconductors are essential for the France of 2030 as depicted by Emmanuel Macron… but the France of 2021 is lacking. To prepare for the future, the Elysée is counting on 6 billion euros of investment while the country, like the whole world, has been experiencing a shortage of electronic components for a year. The latter is already paralyzing many factories, especially in the automotive industry, as these chips and other sensors are now ubiquitous.
Until the details of the plan are known, the semiconductor industry has welcomed the state summit announcements. “It is good to hear a President of the Republic who understands that the semiconductor market is strategic: 6 billion euros, this represents 20% of the investment plan 2030”, rejoices Paul Boudre, the director general of Soitec, the second largest French company in the sector after STMicroelectronics.
