The Minister for Citizenship Marlène Schiappa announces Sunday, April 18, in an interview with Sunday Newspaper (for subscribers), holding“States General of Secularism” which will in particular give rise to “great consultation” with young people on this subject. The kickoff of these States General will be given on Tuesday at the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts (Cnam) in Paris “with a high level conference between intellectuals of all sensibilities”, she specifies, citing among others the academic Barbara Cassin, the essayist Caroline Fourest and the philosopher Gaspard Koenig.

Until summer, “round tables and working groups on freedom of expression, research, youth, civic integration” will be organized, she adds, assuring that she would also leave “flames” to associations and unions. A “large consultation with Make.org” will finally be launched “with 50,000 young people”, adds the Minister Delegate. All exchanges must “to be an opportunity to come together around French secularism”, according to the minister who “invites everyone to speak within the framework of the States General”.
