No more frequency hopping and crackling in the middle of a song or radio show on the Autoroute du Soleil. From this Tuesday, everyone – provided they are in an equipped car – will be able to listen to their favorite radio station all along the journey between Paris and Marseille, with digital quality sound.

It is, indeed, the big day for the national terrestrial digital radio. Called DAB + for “Digital Audio Broadcasting”, this technology, already deployed since 2014 in several French cities or regions, is finally starting to be broadcast nationally with 25 stations available on more than 2,000 kilometers of roads and highways on the Paris-Lyon- axis. Marseilles. For this century-old medium that is radio, it is the biggest revolution since the liberalization of the FM band in the early 1980s. “Radio is a medium that has always been able to adapt to new technologies” recalls Roch-Olivier Maistre, the president of the Superior Audiovisual Council (CSA).
