The government announced, Wednesday, June 9, new measures to strengthen the protection of victims and the monitoring of perpetrators of domestic violence, after the feminicide in Mérignac (Gironde), on May 4, and that committed in Hayange, on May 20. Matignon, who had ordered two inspection missions, mentioned “six new measures”.

The authors of the report recommend “to improve the protection of the victim prior to release” the violent spouse, “to strengthen and secure communication between the competent services” so that they can take “quick decisions”, and finally “to better manage the protection of victims locally”.

Some 3,000 phones “serious danger” will also be made available to the courts by early 2022, while a file of perpetrators of domestic violence will be set up. A body for judicial monitoring of individual situations will also be created, and will bring together magistrates, internal security forces and the prison service for integration and probation.

After the feminicides of Mérignac and Hayange, the government had ordered two inspection missions in order to shed light on these tragedies.
