The FA Cup became the first arena Man City were eliminated this season, leaving them with only the League Cup, the Premier League and the Champions League. Chelsea with the match of Thomas Tuchel, created more opportunities than Man City, and they should have won stronger. And Man City continued to be less charming in attack, when Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling were faint and often lost the ball.

The game is firmly established when both teams try to hold the ball for as long as possible. The two only finished a total of five times in the first half, with one heading towards the goal. But, dangerous opportunities belong to Chelsea, with a combination between the two winger. Reece James hung the ball on the second column for Ben Chilwell to crash into the volley in a very open position. But, Chilwell failed to hit the ball, and missed the chance.

The more remarkable situation in the first half did not come from the expertise, when Fernandinho stepped on Mason Mount’s face but escaped the penalty. The Brazilian midfielder then re-entered the ball under his boots with Mount, when Mike Dean gave Chelsea the advantage. After that, he only reminded, not to draw a card for Fernandinho. It was not until the second half that the midfielder was shown a yellow card, also for a foul on Mount.

Man City suffered great losses early in the second half, when midfielder Kevin de Bruyne injured his ankle after colliding with Kante. He had to limp off the field to make room for Phil Foden.

A few minutes after losing De Bruyne, Man City conceded again. Mason Mount took a glimpse to the left, then poked Timo Werner across the side. Goalkeeper Zack Steffen rushed out, let Werner receive the ball, then stretched Hakim Ziyech into the empty net.

This match Steffen continued to be given a chance to start in the FA Cup, replacing Ederson. After making a mistake that led to the goal, Steffen made a redemption against Ziyech. From a long ball, midfielder Ruben Dias missed the ball to Ziyech’s foot. The Moroccan midfielder shot a touch, but Steffen closed the corner in time.

Man City only created delicious chances in the penultimate second half, when Rodri headed from a corner. The ball goes close to the column and makes goalkeeper Kepa push away. Chelsea are in the final and will meet either Leicester City or Southampton.

After this match, both teams turned their attention to the Premier League in the middle of next week. Man City was a guest at Aston Villa on Wednesday night, April 21. And Chelsea received Brighton a day earlier.
