Approved the appointment of 12 ministers and heads of branches

The delegates passed a resolution approving the appointment of 12 ministers, heads of branches, including the Minister of Defense and Foreign Affairs, on April 8 morning.

The new ministers and heads of the government’s branches have one member of the Politburo and 11 members of the Party Central Committee.

Lieutenant General Phan Van GiangMember of the Politburo, Chief of Staff, Deputy Minister of National Defense, holds the position of Defense Minister. He succeeded General Ngo Xuan Lich, directing the implementation of state management functions on military and defense; is responsible for organization, construction, management and is the highest commander of the People’s Army and the Militia and Self-Defense Force.

Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang is 61 years old; Doctor of Military Science; Nam Dinh hometown. Mr. Giang is one of 10 special cases (over age regulation) re-elected to Central Committee at the XIII Congress and elected to the Politburo.

He used to hold the position of 1st Corps Commander; Deputy Chief of Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army; Commander of Military Region 1; Deputy Defense Minister. From May 2016, he was the Chief of Staff of the People’s Army of Vietnam, Deputy Minister of National Defense.

Mr. Nguyen Hong DienMember of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, replacing Mr. Tran Tuan Anh (was assigned as Head of the Central Economic Committee) as Minister of Industry and Trade.

Mr. Dien is 56 years old; Doctor of Public Administration, Bachelor of History, Bachelor of Economics; Thai Binh hometown. He is an adult cadre at home, used to hold the position of Deputy Secretary, Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union; Chief of the Office of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of Department of Culture and Social Affairs of the Provincial People’s Council; Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of District People’s Council Vu Thu, Head of Propaganda Department of the Provincial Party Committee; Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee; Secretary of the Thai Binh Provincial Party Committee.

Mr. Le Minh Hoan held the position of Minister of Agriculture & Rural Development.

Mr. Hoan is 60 years old, architect, Master of Economics; Dong Thap countryside; used to hold the position of Director of Dong Thap Department of Construction; Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee Cao Lanh; Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People’s Committee, Secretary of Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee.

Mr. Nguyen Van HungMember of the Party Central Committee, holding the position of Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Mr. Hung is 60 years old; Master of Philosophy; Quang Tri hometown. He used to hold many positions in Quang Tri such as Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee and Secretary of the Dong Ha City Party Committee, Deputy Secretary and Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee.

Mr. Maid AnhnhVice President, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, replacing Mr. Do Van Chien (assigned to be the Secretary of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Communist Party) as Minister, Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities.

Mr. Lenh is 48 years old; Master of Science in Agriculture, H’mong ethnic group; hometown of Lao Cai. He used to work at Department 16 – General Department II, Ministry of Defense, then Deputy Secretary of Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nghi hold office Construction Minister.

Mr. Nghi is 45 years old; PhD in Construction Engineering Science; Ca Mau hometown; worked at the University of Architecture of Ho Chi Minh City; hold the position of Deputy Minister of Construction; Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of People’s Committee of Kien Giang province; Secretary of the Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee.

Mr. Ho Duc PhocFormer State Auditor General, succeeding Mr. Dinh Tien Dung (assigned to be the Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee) as Minister of Finance. Mr. Phoc is 58 years old; Bachelor of Finance and Accounting, Doctor of Economics; Nghe An hometown. He was born as an accountant of Quynh Luu District Construction Enterprise (Nghe An Province), experienced many working positions and used to hold the position of Secretary of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee.

Mr. Doan Hong Phong replacing Mr. Le Minh Khai (approved as Deputy Prime Minister) to hold the position of Inspector General of the Government. Mr. Phong is 58 years old; economic masters; Nam Dinh hometown. He started his career as an officer at the Ha Nam Ninh Department of Finance, then was Director of the Department of Finance, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Nam Dinh province, and then Secretary of the Party Committee of Nam Dinh (since 2015).

Mr. Bui Thanh Son hold the position of Foreign Minister.

Mr. Son is 59 years old; Bachelor of Diplomacy, Master of International Relations; hometown of Hanoi. Mr. Son’s career is closely related to the diplomatic service. He used to work as Deputy Director and Deputy Director of the Institute of International Relations; Ambassador Counselor at the Vietnam Embassy in Singapore; Deputy Director then Director, Foreign Policy Department; Assistant Secretary of State, Department of Foreign Policy, Deputy Foreign Minister.

Mr. Nguyen Kim Son replacing Mr. Phung Xuan Nha as the Minister of Education and Training. This is the second time Mr. Son has succeeded Mr. Nha. Before that, when Mr. Nha was appointed as Minister of Education and Training in 2016, Mr. Son replaced Mr. Nha as Director of Hanoi National University.

Mr. Son is 55 years old; Associate Professor, Doctor of Literature; Hai Phong hometown. He used to experience the position of Head of Training Department and Director of China Research Center; Vice Rector of University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Hanoi National University) cum Director of Center for Chinese Studies; Deputy Director of Hanoi National University.

Mr. Tran Van Son hold office Minister, Head of Government Office.

Mr. Son is 60 years old; Master of Business Administration, Construction Economics Engineer; Nam Dinh hometown. Mr. Son comes from an expert in Construction Enterprise No. 1, Housing Construction Association of large plate No. 1 – Ministry of Construction. He used to be a Deputy Minister of Construction before being promoted to Deputy Secretary and then Secretary of the Dien Bien Provincial Party Committee. He is the Deputy Director of the Government Office from the end of 2020.

Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Tra hold the position of Interior Minister.

Mrs. Tra 57 years old; Bachelor of Arts in Literature, Master of Education Management; Nghe An hometown. Starting from being a Teacher of Co Phuc Primary School, Tran Yen District, Yen Bai Province, she used to hold many positions in Yen Bai province such as Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union; Head of the Provincial Party Committee for Propaganda and Education; Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee; Party Secretary; Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee and Secretary of the Yen Bai Provincial Party Committee.

April 7 afternoon, The National Assembly passed a resolution approving the resignation of some Government members, including Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung and 12 ministers and heads of branches. These are dismissed positions and nominated replacement personnel.

At the beginning of termGovernment of the XIV term has 27 members, including: Prime Minister, 5 Deputy Prime Ministers (including a Deputy Prime Minister cum Minister of Foreign Affairs) and 21 Ministers and Heads of branches. In June 2020, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue was relieved of duty after the Politburo assigned him to be the Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee. Thus, the Government currently has 26 members, of which 13 personnel were consolidated at this National Assembly session.
